The guard castle, located on the Zittau Trail, was built in the mid-13th century. It was gradually rebuilt into a chateau, but it underwent major Baroque renovations from the mid-17th century.
The chateau is associated with the life of St. Zdislava of Lemberk, to whom one of the chateau exhibitions is dedicated.
Another exhibition presents works of modern artistic glassmaking, a unique fairy tale hall with a coffered ceiling and motifs from Aesop's fables.

Grabštejn Castle near Hrádek nad Nisou

Grabštejn Castle

Grabštejn Castle is originally a Gothic castle from the 13th century, rebuilt in the 16th century into a Renaissance chateau. It is currently owned by the state under the administration of the National Heritage Institute. The biggest attraction is the beautiful interiors and especially the magnificent Renaissance chapel of St. Barbara.
Initially, the castle was owned by the Donín family, under whom the castle was conquered several times during the Hussite Wars. Due to debts, in the 16th century the castle came into the hands of Jiří Mehl of Střelice, who had it rebuilt into a Renaissance chateau with a court yard in the years 1566-1586. Since the end of the 16th century, the castle has had several owners. Finally, the castle was owned by the Clam-Gallas family, who confiscated the castle after World War II.
After the war, the Czechoslovak army settled in the castle. After the army abandoned the castle, it quickly fell into disrepair and became almost a ruin. The castle was renovated between 1988 and 2010.

Grabštejn Castle offers several tour routes. In addition to the interior tours, there is also an interactive children's tour for younger children. It is possible to visit the castle tower with a view of the surroundings without a guide.

The town of Jablonné in Podještědí square

Jablonné in Podještědí

The town of Jablonné was probably founded by Havel of Lemberk in the 13th century and was part of the Lemberk estate. However, his sons divided the property, thanks to which Jablonné had its own history compared to Lemberk. However, it was very rich. From the oldest history, the city's Gothic fortifications can still be seen here, the originally Romanesque-Gothic Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, which was later rebuilt into a brewery and is now an observation tower, or the hospital chapel of St. Wolfgang. The Baroque era was most pronounced in the city, and so you can see the minor basilica of St. Lawrence and St. Zdislava, the plague column from 1686 or the former hunting lodge of the Pachts of Rájov from 1700. It was originally in the forest, but now stands in the city by the road and has served as a post office since 1737. Furthermore, the city is home to the Nový Falkenburk castle, which now serves as a children's home, and newly landscaped wetlands in the form of a nature trail.

Oybin Castle Zittau

Oybin Castle

The most famous mountain in the Zittau Mountains, the 514-meter-high Oybin, is a huge sandstone rock massif located in the middle of a basin surrounded by volcanoes, including Hvozd (749 m). This picturesque landscape was created by natural forces over millions of years. In the Cretaceous period, sandstone was first deposited and sedimented, which was then broken through by volcanic magmas in the Tertiary period. The magnificent ruins of medieval buildings combined with the special natural conditions make Oybin one of the main sights of Upper Lusatia and a visit to it is one of the priorities of a stay in the Zittau Mountains.

Liberec Zoo

LIBEREC ZOO

The Liberec Zoo is the oldest zoo in the Czech Republic. It was founded in 1919 and the people of Liberec consider it an integral part of their city. The zoo specializes in breeding rare and endangered species of animals, the most famous of which are the so-called white tigers. It is located in a picturesque valley near the city center, within easy reach of the tram. We recommend a half-day or full-day trip by train from nearby Rynoltice, through the picturesque Kryštofovo Valley, which will certainly impress your children (and not only them). In addition to approximately 150 species of animals in approximately 1,000 specimens, which are also accessible to visitors with physical disabilities, the zoo also offers a demonstration feeding of sea lions, a children's train and other attractions.

Liberec Botanical Garden

Liberec Botanical Garden

The Botanical Garden was founded in Liberec in 1876 on the initiative of the Society of Friends of Nature (Verein der Naturfreunde). They began planting trees and shrubs on the site where the North Bohemian Museum is now located.

And it was precisely because of the construction of the aforementioned museum that the original Botanical Garden had to be moved to a new area after 15 years of operation. However, some of the tree species remained in their place, which is why the North Bohemian Museum has such a diverse composition in its park today.
